I mentioned to my pal Dave, who is your old fashioned kind of Karl Marxist (he's doing a phd about conditions for farm labourers in the 1930s) that I'd come across something called phenomenology in a book about computers_everywhere, and what did he think of it? RFID For The People

People have started building RFID jammers, which is surely a worthwhile thing to do.

Corporations and governments own the readers, unsuspecting citizens carry the chips around on their person and get thoroughly surveilled and data-mined without so much as a by-your-leave.

Who wouldn't want to jam that?

But I wonder if as well as jammers we need to be armed with readers.

If we're going to steal/subvert/mess-around-and-have-fun in a world in which every object carries as many life stories as we want to give it, then what we'll need is light, cheap, portable readers.
