"Camera phones capture the more fleeting and unexpected moments of surprise, beauty and adoration in the everyday. " Daisuke Okabe
I'm really proud of this. Postcards From Fenland is an art event we're running this summer in Fenland, a very flat, rural part of the east of England.
We've given a group of teenagers a cheap camera phone for a week each and asked them to record their day-to-day lives. Before they started they had a fantastic morning with photographer Martin Figura, to sharpen up their eyes, then off they went.
So far the results are marvellous.
It’s this truth of having a creative device that everyone can take with them everywhere, and use to snatch some moments of reflection, meaning and communication from the daily grind, that reminds me why I’ve loved mobile phones for the last four years.
